Current Collaborations

The Voice Foundation Philadelphia

Bel Canto Boot Camp has presented two workshops at The Voice Foundation in Philadelphia, inspiring further research into the rich history of the bel canto tradition.

At the yearly symposium, we meet voice professionals including surgeons, scientists, speech-language pathologists, teachers, performing artists, and students from all over the world to learn about the most up-to-date research findings, therapeutic techniques, and improved surgical methods in the field of voice medicine.

Study Methods for Students of Italian Opera

A multi-year collaboration with Michigan State University culminated in a presentation at the National Opera Association (NOA) and National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) in Savannah.

Italian opera poses many obstacles to the young student of voice: a mountain of Italian text to learn, secco and accompagnato recitative styles, the conventions of the appoggiatura, and facility in ornamentation and variation just to name a few. Our research has revealed the importance of allowing students ample time to assimilate the information.

Why It Matters

BCBC’s expertise in the historical bel canto tradition inspires many of our colleagues not to lose touch with the past as we look to the future. There is so much to learn from the treatises of the past and the treasure trove of historical recordings.

Our research materials inspire singers and teachers today to delve into history by making it not only accessible for today’s singer, but by showing how knowledge of the past makes music come alive today.

Support This Initiative

Symposiums can be costly, and many professionals rely on sponsorships from their medical practices or schools to attend.

As an independent organization, BCBC depends on the generosity of donors to conduct vital research and share our findings with the international research community.

Your donation helps BCBC deepen its impact across all the fields connected to our work. Thank you for supporting future collaborative research!
